Al Gore to Publish New Book as Blueprint for Answering the Climate Crisis
Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore announced on March 24th that he plans to release a new book this November to pick up where An Inconvenient Truth left off. Mr. Gore said his book, Our Choice, will rally supporters to act now on climate change and to support renewable energy projects as a way to combat global warming and bolster international economies. “An Inconvenient Truth reached millions of people with the message that the climate crisis is threatening the future of human civilization and that it must and can be solved,” Mr. Gore said in a statement. “Now that the need for urgent action is even clearer with the alarming new findings of the last three years, it is time for a comprehensive global plan that actually solves the climate crisis. Our Choice will answer that call.” As they did with An Inconvenient Truth, former Vice President Gore and Mrs. Tipper Gore will donate 100% of the proceeds of the book to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit, non-partisan group dedicated to spreading awareness about the climate crisis and how to solve it.
United Nation Report Says Water Stress Will Affect Half the World’s Population by 2030
Climate change will cause almost half the world’s population to be affected by water stress, according to a new report from the UN released this month at the annual World Water Forum in Istanbul. Political and business leaders must increase their investment in water infrastructure, the report urges, or risk having economic activity and development goals being seriously undermined.
The World Water Development report warned that the combination of climate change, population growth, and increased demand for food, energy and biofuels would cause 47 per cent of the global population to live in areas of high water stress in little more than two decades. Furthermore, Koïchiro Matsuura, director general of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESC) warned that water scarcity could become an “insurmountable” issue if urgent action is not taken quickly to put proper water infrastructure in place.
